52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks – Week 2: Favorite Photo

Week 2 of Amy Johnson Crow’s 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks Challenge.  This week’s topic is “Favorite Photo.”

Hhhhmmm….. my favorite photo. It’s so hard to choose! My favorite pictures are usually snapshots that aren’t staged – photos that just happen to catch everyday life as it’s happening.  Imperfect pictures that are perfect in every way!

I’d have to say this photo is my favorite. Even if it’s not very old.

Dad and Aunt Carol

This photo was taken at my sister’s wedding reception/celebration about 10 years ago. This is my dad and his Aunt Carol. Dad appears to be telling a story – this picture may have been snapped right at the climax of that tale. He has a cup in his hand, but he’s pointing his finger like he’s delivering the punchline at that very moment (you can see the movement of his finger in the photo).

And that smile of Aunt Carol’s – you don’t get genuine expressiveness like that in a typical “say cheese” portrait. I can actually hear her laughing! I wonder what this conversation was about…….
